We began Heart & Soul parrot rescue because we believed we could provide improved care for these amazing birds. We observed other rescues choosing the attractive birds but ignoring the pluckers or those with high vet bills in favor of quickly adoptable birds. We hoped our rescue would stand out. We make an effort to collaborate with all individuals. We selected heart and soul for our rescue and parrots as we dedicate all of our heart and soul to them. We strive to carry out rescues in the correct manner. Embrace all individuals and show them the same care as you would your own family members. We rely on the support of our dedicated volunteers, fosters, and friends who are essential to our existence. When I was young, I always adored animals. At the age of 19, I became enamored with my initial parrot, a rose breasted cockatoo that I saw in a pet store, even though I never imagined owning one. Many years later, I discovered a rescue where I volunteered and fell in love with Merlin, my first adopted cockatoo. After tippy the cockatoo comes my Moe, a greenwing macaw. And all my saved birds who I care for as if they were part of my own group. I am a mother of three girls who are aged 31, 29, and 20. 1 beloved grandson with whom I enjoy spending time. I own a 60-pound tortoise that is 12 years old, named lil homie, along with two dogs named poopy and megatron, as well as a short-tail possum. Jerry, my husband, and I have been married for 29 years, and he has tolerated my chaotic life and enthusiasm. He consistently claims there are no more birds, but we always manage to make space for the emergencies. Once more, he is the reason this rescue organization exists.

Birds have always held a unique significance in my life. I received my first personal bird at the age of seven, and since then, my passion for these animals has only grown. At seventeen, I began rescuing birds and soon discovered Heart & Soul, enrolling in one of their initial classes. Upon meeting Sherry, I immediately recognized her genuine commitment to rescue work, driven by a desire to provide these birds with a second chance at happiness and to advocate for their well-being. Sherry possesses an immense heart and dedicates her entire being to the rescue, which is reflected in the organization's name. I began fostering and volunteering alongside Sherry, which allowed me to cultivate a deeper friendship with her and our fellow volunteers. I face numerous health challenges that significantly affect my mental well-being, compounded by my inability to have children. My birds serve as my children, and my affection for them is boundless. There is no greater joy for me than earning a bird's trust, especially knowing that they have previously suffered at the hands of humans yet still choose to trust me. I cherish observing birds feel secure enough to reveal their true personalities in my presence, and I am committed to respecting their boundaries while providing them with a voice. My mind finds peace when I am with my birds or working with one of our fosters in rehabilitation. Although the process of finding them new forever homes can be challenging, it is immensely rewarding. I take pride in being owned by parrots, feeling as though I am part of their flock. They are remarkable companions, offering unconditional love and acceptance, just as I do for them. Seven years ago, I met my wonderful husband, who has always been aware of my passion for birds. He never hesitates to assist with the rescue efforts, even when I say, "we are just taking in one more foster." I am incredibly thankful for his support and delighted that he is gradually becoming a bird enthusiast himself.

My name is Amanda, and my husband Jeremy and I became involved with Sherry shortly after we adopted a cockatoo named Koby. During our adoption process, Sherry and Jerry visited our home, sitting on our couch as if we were family. They checked in on us, ensuring that we were comfortable and that everything was progressing smoothly. We immediately connected, sharing a mutual passion for birds and animals. Our involvement began with assisting at events, which evolved into fostering, and before long, we had formed a close bond with them, becoming like family. Sherry has profoundly influenced my life; she has not only become my best friend and a maternal figure but also my mentor throughout this journey. I have gained invaluable knowledge from her and have experienced significant personal growth through the rescue. As a mother of five children, I take great joy in involving them in the rescue efforts, and they cherish every bird that comes into our care. My home resembles a zoo, and I would not trade that experience for anything. This rescue has become an integral part of my life and heart. Previously, I founded a dog rescue, but our move to Pittsburgh prompted us to explore parrot rescue. I am not seeking fame; rather, I aspire to make a meaningful impact within the community and the parrot rescue field. Having owned an umbrella cockatoo for most of my life, I never imagined I would eventually care for an entire flock of pampered parrots. I am immensely grateful for our dedicated team at the rescue. We collaborate tirelessly to ensure that each bird receives love and is placed in a forever home. When a bird is adopted from my home, my goal is to ensure they never leave their new home again. I work with each bird seven days a week to prepare them for their adoptive families. Some adoptions are particularly emotional, as I reflect on the journey of these birds, witnessing their growth and the potential they still possess.
